Mike is in a pretty strong position to offer advice to anyone contemplating starting their own business, given that he has run his own successful consulting firm Johnson & Associates since 1982, following a career in business journalism.
In this interview, Mike talks us through some of the key themes of the book, which offers practical advice to anyone wanting to start their own business. He also shares his thoughts on why some start ups succeed and some go off track.
Mike’s tips for success include:
- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME REAL BUSINESS BEFORE YOU START - try to get a contract from your ex-employer
- TRY NOT TO BORROW MONEY - the interest will really hurt you
- KEEP YOUR EXPENSES FLAT ON THE FLOOR
- HAVE FUN - remember why you are doing this
