You’ve probably not heard of John and his team at PDS Engineering - they’re not one of the North West’s best known brands or household names, but in the specialised world of high-tech engineering, they’re serious players that have customers like NASA knocking on their doors.
In this interview, John outlines how his team worked on Richard Noble’s Thrust SSC (Supersonic Car) project which broke the land speed record and sound barrier, reaching 766 mph at Black Rock in the Nevada desert. They also assisted Richard Branson in his attempts to circumnavigate the globe in a balloon and most recently were part of the team that renovated Donald Campbell’s Bluebird.
John has the following advice for those in business:
- WORK SHOULD BE FUN - it’s not just about making money
- BUILD THE BEST TEAM YOU CAN - your people are the key to success, look after them and make them feel part of what you do
- DON’T REINVENT THE WHEEL - if somebody else already makes a great component, buy from them, don’t waste time starting from scratch
